1st International Conducting Masterclass and Competition

Athens Philharmonia Orchestra announced the first International Conducting Masterclass and Competition for young conductors. It took place the first days of March 2019 under the direction of Michalis Economou, an internationally renowned Greek conductor. Only 14 out of more than 100 applicants from all over the word were carefully chosen to participate in a six days intensive postgraduate program of courses and rehearsals and have the chance to conduct the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra in masterpieces of the classical repertoire.

On the penultimate day of the Masterclass, the members of the orchestra voted for the seven semi-finalists, who had the chance to conduct the general rehearsal and the final concert, which took place on Saturday, March 9th. at “Artemis” Concert Hall, the orchestra’s residence, with free admission. The winner of the competition, Jonathan Stark, was invited to conduct an Athens Philharmonia Orchestra official concert in the 2019/2020 season.
